# The roster worksheet

`roster-worksheet.csv` is the file a chapter fills in to bring its whole
roster and family tree into the site in one import. Any officer or the chapter
historian can fill it from whatever records exist — composites, old rosters,
the chapter's records book. Send it back, or import it yourselves in
**Admin → Classes → Import a class from CSV**.

## The three columns

Rules that save you a second pass:

- **One row per member, header row stays.** Founders simply have no Big.
- **Spelling is identity.** "Rob Calhoun" and "Robert Calhoun" become two
  people. Pick one form of each name and use it in both columns.
- **Class format:** `Name · Season Year` (the `·` can be a `-`; `'93` or
  `1993` both work). Keep one exact spelling per class — every member of a
  class must have an identical Pledge Class cell.
- Extra columns are ignored by the importer, so notes columns are fine.
- Nothing imports without a preview: the import screen shows every row's fate
  first, and unclear rows wait for a human decision.

On an empty site the importer runs in **day-zero mode** automatically: new
pledge classes are accepted as written and bigs are linked between rows of the
same file, so the whole tree — back to the founding — arrives in one import.
